Nicolas Nicoloau is a savvy entrepreneur whose charisma and ambition have contributed to his success in not one, but two careers. A child of immigrant parents, Nicolas grew up in the New York borough of Queens and learned early the value of hard work. He won the prestigious Westinghouse Scholarship and went on to earn his degree in government and politics from Saint John’s University. He then put his pre-law education to good use as a business owner in the high-stakes world of entertainment.
“I was employed by Sony music and their clients who were looking for set designers to help produce TV commercials, music videos and live performance events,” Nicolas explains. “We built custom scenery and lighting packages and managed entire campaigns for the talent. My pre-law background gave me a hand up on the competition, since I knew how to architect contracts to minimize risk and maximize reward. I learned a lot about risk management and negotiation.”
Nicolas further refined his skills after he relocated to California and began working with a company that produced high-budget auto show displays. He was promoted from production manager to director of sales, controlling tens of millions in business.
After the Great Recession, Nicolas saw fresh opportunities in real estate. “All of my relatives came from Greece. With no education and no pensions, it was the investments in real estate over the years that put them in a position to retire. Witnessing that made me really passionate about real estate, and I always knew that was somewhere I wanted to go in life. I had made money buying and selling homes of my own, and I knew real estate was a business where I could apply all of my skills and realize my full potential.”
A business innovator, Nicolas soon developed a real estate model that outpaced his competition and generated more business than he could manage alone. “Transactions are inherently fragile. You don’t always know if a buyer or seller is sincere, if there will be issues with title, the lender or another agent. The discovery process and un-foreseen repairs could implode a transaction. My team and I strive to get in front of what can go wrong, and prepare for it.”
In 2014, Nicolas was honored with Trulia’s Top Agent Award, a distinction he shares with only the top one percent of agents nationwide.
